  • The first thing to consider is the type of service you need - This of course largely depends on the budget for any particular individual; Please see the different type of services we offer for both house & business moves under ‘Services’ it’s also wise to discuss the details of your planned move with the estimator or surveyor (in case we do a home visit) although Sometimes home visits are unnecessary if the customer can make a meticulous inventory list of items to be moved & email a clear-cut explanation of what needs doing.
    • Allow yourself time to go through most of the major items from room to room when preparing an items inventory list making sure you note any items that will not be moving and label them with stickers.
    • Mention items you are particularly concerned about e.g. Fragile, heavy or valued antiques.
  • Booking your move - Make sure that booking you confirm with your mover is definite. All moves have potential dates but until contracts are exchanged, completed and handover of key times are agreed you cannot make any fixed date plans for removal. It's wise to check with all the parties involved before making a final date confirmation with the removal company.
  • Drawers - We always advise the customer not to bother emptying contents from drawers. This can be transported securely by first removing the drawers and safely placing them back onto the main unit in the removal vehicle.
  • Personal Items - Passports/Money/Handbags/documents/night away bag, jewellery etc- must be Kept aside & in your possession e.g. inside your car together with all the personal items you want to take with you during the move. Always be sure that the porters cannot pack these items away with your removal goods. Keep them out of the way to avoid any errors.
  • Mains Services - Depending on whether you’re selling or renting the property you’re moving from, when you have your confirmed date from your solicitor/letting agents make arrangements to have your gas/electric/telephone e.t.c disconnected and meters read.
  • Children and Pets - If possible it is usually better if you can arrange for younger children and pets to be looked after whilst the move is taking place as it can be quite stressful for them. However, older children may enjoy the excitement of the move.
  • Parking and Access - If there’re parking restrictions at either location, it will be necessary for you to obtain the relevant exemptions/permissions. Either way, you will need to liaise with us on the size of the parking space required for the removal vehicle. Also let us know if there are any other difficulties getting access to your new home - narrow streets, overhanging trees, low bridges/gates, small doorways, spiral staircase etc.. If you are moving to a multi-storey building check if there is a lift that can be used for furniture and if possible make arrangements for priority use for the day.
  • Insurance - Even with the greatest care taken, NOT a single removal company can guarantee that your personal and cherished belongings won't get damaged in transit. This is why we offer suitable insurance cover as part of the service. Insurance is not only important, but it's also common sense!
  • Final Check - When we let you know that everything has been loaded, carefully check around the house to be sure that nothing has been left behind, or that they have not loaded something you wanted to be left.

  • Tidy Up=> Try and have your home tidy when the removal estimator is carrying out his survey as this will mean he will be able to accurately gauge the amount of furniture he is quoting for.
  • Book In Advance=>  Book in advance as early as possible as removal companies will be keen to fill their diary as early as possible so early home visits places you in a good bargaining position.
  • Your Own Insurance=>  Find out if your own home insurance covers you for your move. If it does, ask your mover if there is a chargeable element in their quote for insurance and can it be deducted.

Planning Your Move=>>10 Things You Should Do When Planning Your Move

  1. Try to start getting quotes between 4-6 weeks before your move date so you don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself and risk not getting a suitable booking from a quality mover.

  2. Always ensure you receive a written booking confirmation after establishing the quantity & nature of items to be moved rather than estimates over the phone - a mover who gives estimates don't really know what they are quoting for and they may turn up underprepared and understaffed.

  3. Ask that any costing is in writing.

  4. Request that any booking is followed up with a confirmation of booking from your mover - without which there is no legally binding contract.

  5. Contact your neighbours in advance to tell them you are moving and ask them to leave a space for the removal van to park. 

  6. It is a good idea to number all boxes and bags and take an inventory of the amount to be moved - this can reduce the chance of any disputes regarding any loss items or missing boxes.

  7. Keep all personal items such as driving licences, cash, credit cards passports, etc. on your person on move day as you may need them.

  8. Keeping a survival kit of items you will need on move day such as light bulbs, a torch, first aid kit, etc. can be very handy.
